A watchmaker's bench with tools arranged in order

Damansara Utama · Est. 2016

A Workshop Built on Careful Work

Tickwise began with a straightforward idea — that watches brought in for attention should leave in better condition than they arrived, with a clear record of what was done.

Our Story

The Workshop's Background

Tickwise opened in Damansara Utama in 2016, occupying a unit at 14-2 Jalan SS 21/35 that has since served as both a drop-off point for customers and a working bench for the watchmakers on the team. The location was chosen for its accessibility within Petaling Jaya — close to regular roads, with street parking and a lift — rather than for foot traffic.

The workshop focuses on three areas: quartz movement care for everyday wearers, bracelet and strap refit for owners refreshing a daily piece, and full mechanical overhauls for modern sports watches. Each category has a defined scope, a starting price, and a written intake process that sets expectations before bench work begins.

The work here isn't rushed. A quartz service takes the days it takes; a full overhaul takes weeks. What owners consistently note is that they receive back not just a watch but a short document — timing results, components addressed, condition notes — that gives the service context and a reference point for future maintenance decisions.

Our Values

What We Hold to

Scope before bench

No work beyond the agreed scope is carried out without a conversation first. If inspection reveals something additional, the owner decides.

Honest turnaround

Timelines given at intake reflect the actual bench time required, not the answer someone wants to hear. Longer projects get progress updates.

Written records

Every piece leaves with a note of what was done. Timing figures, components replaced, condition observations — part of the returned work.

Clear pricing

Published starting prices cover standard scope. No invoice arrives with additions the owner wasn't consulted on.

How We Work

Workshop Standards

The procedures below apply to every piece that comes through the intake counter, regardless of service type or price point.

Written Intake Protocol

Each drop-off is recorded with brand, model, presented condition, agreed service scope, and target return date. Customer retains a copy.

Inspection Under Magnification

Case-backs, gasket seats, crowns, crystal edges, and movement components are examined under loupe or stereo magnification before work begins.

Test Bench Timing

Timing accuracy is measured on bench equipment. Overhaul pieces are tested across multiple positions; results are documented in the service record.

Pressure Check Where Applicable

Sports watches with water-resistance specifications are pressure-tested after case work and gasket replacement, with results noted on the service sheet.

Scope Changes Require Approval

If inspection reveals work outside the agreed scope, the owner is contacted before the bench proceeds. No surprise additions on collection.

Clean Return Presentation

Returned pieces are cleaned externally before handover. The service document is presented alongside the watch, not placed inside the case-back.

Workshop Context

Watch Care in the Klang Valley

Tickwise operates from Damansara Utama — a neighbourhood in Petaling Jaya that sits between Subang and Kuala Lumpur — and serves owners across the broader Klang Valley. The three services on offer reflect what a watch genuinely needs at different stages of its life: a quartz piece in regular wear needs its gaskets and cell attended to every few years; a bracelet collects stretch and grime that a refit addresses cleanly; a mechanical sports watch used in active conditions builds up internal wear that a full overhaul reverses.

The workshop does not specialise in antiques or complex high-complications. The scope is deliberate — modern quartz and mechanical watches, from everyday wearers to sports pieces with a few years of hard use. That focus keeps the work consistent and the turnaround estimates honest.

Owners in Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam, Subang Jaya, and Kuala Lumpur have used the Damansara Utama workshop as their regular drop-off point. The intake process is the same regardless of the watch's value: a written record, an agreed scope, and a realistic return date.
